Image Intensifier 18 mm with Taper output for 1/2" CCD coupling. The photocathode of the image intensifier is sensitive to visible and near infrared light in the wavelength range of 400-900 nm. Incoming photons are converted into free electrons which are accelerated inside of the image intensifier in the direction of an integrated multichannel plate which acts as a parallel setup of electron multipliers with a channel size of 10µm or less. The electrons enter the channels and the number of electrons is multiplied by a factor of aro 10000 due to a cascade process in the applied high voltage field. Behind the multichannel plate the electrons are accelerated in the direction of a phosphor screen. The electron energy is converted in the screen in visible photons. The photons are guided in the fiber optic taper direct to the sensitive pixels of the coupled sensor.

18 mm Image Intensifier GIDS-1863Q

intensifier

high sensitivity double proximity focused image intensifier with green optimized S20 photocathode on fiber-optic input window, incorporated high resolution single MCP and P22 screen on straight fiber-optic output window. This image intensifier is foreseen to be coupled on the input side with an X-ray converter screen like P43, P46, P47 or CsI on a fiber-optic plate. The screens with P43, P46 and P47 could be supplied by GIDS GmbH also see our product information.

If you prefer to couple a CsI screen we propose to use the Hamamatsu J6679 or J6679-01. If you prefer to have a high resolution X-Ray system we propose to use a GIDS GmbH P43 screen. This is the system with highest resolution you are able to achieve with this image intensifier.

Fiberoptic coupling

CCD fiberoptic coupling

In most cases of CCD applications the incoming light is transferred to the CCD through a lens. In some situations the use of fiber optic elements is better because the light collecting efficiency is much higher. Fiber optics are used in low light level applications to couple the light from scintillator screens, image intensifiers or streak tubes to a CCD or CMOS sensor. The photons are guided in the fibers direct to the sensitive pixels. The fiber optic coupling allow a much better transfer efficiency of the photons to the sensor pixel than a normal lens system. For example a 1:1 fiber optic plate instead of a f/1,2 lens reach a 10 times higher efficiency. It is possible to couple to the most front illuminated CCDs and it is possible to couple to some back-thinned CCDs. It is possible to couple with 1:1 fiber optic plates and with fiber optic tapers. The maximum reduction ratio is 6:1 and the maximum available outer diameter of the large taper side is 165 mm.
