Power supplies
Photek manufactures a range of power supply modules to be used with our range of image intensifiers and PMTs.
For our image intensifiers Photek can provide a power supply module that can be used with image intensifiers with up to three microchannel plates. The image intensifier power supply is available in two formats; either flat pack or wrap around, which can be used with image intensifiers up to 40mm diameter. The image intensifier power supply can be used in conjunction with our gate modules and feature adjustable screen and MCP voltage allowing precise configuration with your image intensifier of choice.

The Photek range of high voltage bench power supplies has one, two, three or four high voltage outputs which are either positive or negative depending on the detector that is to be used with the bench power supply. The bench power supply is designed to be used with the Photek range of image intensifiers, PMTs, and VIDs

Gating modules

Photek’s range of photocathode gates units can be used with our image intensifiers and PMTs as ultra-fast electronic shutters. This technique is useful when the detector is used in high brightness situations or when capturing very fast-moving objects. The gate unit operates by turning the photocathode on and off to 3 ns with a 300 kHz repetition rate (model dependant). For UHV detectors our GM-MCP gate module enables direct gating of the MCP to 8 ns. This is particularly useful when time-slicing of electrons and ions is required.
Art.-Nr. | Description | Datasheet |
GM10-50B | 50 ns, 10 kHz repetition gate unit
GM300-3 | 3 ns, 300 kHz repetition rate gate unit
GM300-8U | 8 ns, 300 kHz repetition rate universal gate unit
GM-MCP | 8 ns, 1 kHz repetition rate MCP gate unit
IGC3 | Gate controller, minimum pulse width 3 ns with 250 ps increments |
Laser pulser

The LPG laser pulse generator is designed for time-resolved diagnostics of photomultipliers and image intensifiers. The LPG can test both the time response of high-speed photomultipliers and the gating speed of image intensifiers. The LPG features a lens control that allows the beam to be de-focussed and spread across the detector area and a variable width control for pulse widths between 40 ps to 800 ps. As standard the LPG is supplied with either a 405 or 650 nm laser, other wavelengths are available on request.
Features
- Specifically designed for time-resolved diagnostics of high-speed optical detectors
- Simple to use with only a trigger input and synch output connector
- A lens control allows the beam to be de-focussed and spread across the detector area
- A variable width control allows pulse widths from 40 ps up to 800 ps
Applications
- Time response of high-speed photomultipliers
Gating measurement of image intensifiers
Preamplifier

The PA200-10 preamplifier module is designed to be used with Photek detectors using 2 or more microchannel plates as they produce a small fast electrical pulse for each photon or particle passing through the detector. The PA200-10 is to be used in close conjunction with these detectors to amplify the timing pulses for connection by a 50-ohm cable to oscilloscopes or other fast-timing electronics.
Features
- 3 dB Bandwidth 2 GHz (typical)
- Rise time 180 ps
- Jitter Less than 10 ps
- Gain 20 dB non-inverting max input 400 mV
- Output 50 ohm SMA
Applications
- Preamplifier for photomultipliers and time of flight detectors
- Takes timing pulses from vacuum-compatible detectors, IPDs and other
- Photek photon imaging detectors
